What are the requirements to work in a Community Support Role?

Requirements:

  • current first aid certificate
  • manual handling (for healthcare) certificate*
  • recent references from previous employment
  • current National Criminal History Record Check*
  • NSW Working with Children Check (for some positions)
  • Access to your own vehicle is highly regarded

* We can assist you to attain these if necessary

Qualifications:

Although not always essential (depending on previous experience), holding a relevant qualification is likely to help in securing a Community Support role. These can include:

  • a Certificate III or IV in Aged Care, Home & Community Care, or Disability
  • a nursing qualification

Experience:

Most of our community support roles require a minimum of three months recent practical experience in a relevant, local environment, which could be in-home care, a nursing home or hospital.

Transport:

Many support jobs require travel between locations, as well as transportation/escort duties with the consumer, so it’s also beneficial to hold a valid drivers licence and have access to a fully insured vehicle.
