Sydney Nurses Top Tips To Avoid Tired Feet On A Long Shift

  • Exercise
  • Make sure to slip in some stretching during work
  • Relieve those tired feet with some Epsom salts

Exercise

It won’t be the first time that someone has suggested exercise, but the dreaded ‘E’ in this instance is to focus on stretching exercises. After all with all the running around that nurses do all day one might think that was exercise enough. It is in a certain sense – except that after every exercise you would usually warm down and yes, stretch those tense muscles. What usually happens is that nurses who finally get off their shift forgot to stretch out a bit allowing muscles to tense up leading to stiff muscles the next day.

Make sure to slip in some stretching during work

In order to prevent cramps from taking over your feet, it is advisable that you stretch out the muscles on your ankles, legs, calf muscles as often as possible.  If you do have a minute to spare, stretch out those hamstring muscles. Try some ankle rolls while doing up reports and charting. It doesn’t take that long to get in a few stretches during the day and the benefits will keep you fit for longer.

Relieve those tired feet with some Epsom salts

Soaking one's feet in a bath of Epsom salts might be a considered an old wives remedy, but it does the job fantastically well of reducing inflammation. After more than 12 hours on your feet you can be sure that there is bound to be some swelling. Adding some essential oils into a basin of warm water can also do the trick of easing ankle swells.
