Nursing in Australia: Tips For Staying Close With Your Non-nurse Friends

While nursing can be an extremely rewarding job, your social like can often take the brunt of those late nights, especially for Travelling nurses in Australia. However, you have to be honest, isolating yourself from your loved ones and friends who are outside your nursing fraternity is not a good idea. Not sure how to rekindle those lost ties ? Read on for some simple strategies to reconnect and spend more time with your friends and loved ones.

Social media — use it.

There is a reason that social media has the word “social” in it. These days everyone is online on some social media platform or the other. While you might be saying with nurse jobs there isn’t much time to browse through and like pictures of babies, dogs and holidays. However, there’s more to social media than posts. Use social media to keep track of birthdays, and events being organised by those who are close to you. Just drop a message of congratulations, and wishes which will become a conversation starter.

Merge your “to-do” list with your “to-see” list

As a nurse it’s understandable that your free time is extremely limited. That’s why you need to maximise the time that you do have. A good idea to do this is to combine your essential everyday chores with meet -ups. For instance, when shopping for groceries invite a friend who lives nearby to to join you. If you have to hunt for an apartment ask a friend to come along. Getting rid of excess food ? Invite your friends over for a potluck. There are plenty of opportunities to find time you just need to be a bit creative.

Get ’em all at once

Another idea to maximise engagements with limited time, is to roll them all into one. Instead of trying to find five days in the week to see five people, get them all in together. Invite them all over for a movie night or a game night. Or book your favourite restaurant and ask everyone to drop by.
