Applying For A Working Holiday Visa For Australia

Give yourself plenty of time

Nurses apply through the same process as any other Working Holiday Visa applicant. It normally takes around 12 days to complete, but can take up to 90, so apply in good time.

Make sure your passport is valid

This is a no-brainer but you must have a valid passport when applying. If your passport is near its expiration date, get a new one before you apply.

Apply direct with the Australian government

There are many companies offering to apply for a visa on your behalf, but using them is both costly and unnecessary. The process through the Australian Department for Immigration and Border Protection is simple and straightforward and you’ll save money if you do it yourself.

Get Registered with the AHPRA

Once you have been granted a Working Holiday Visa, to determine whether you can work as a nurse in Australia, you will need to be assessed by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC) or the nursing regulatory body in the state in wish you would like to work.  Note you can only work for the same employer for a maximum of 6 months.
